THE CHALLENGE
Climate change acts as a “threat multiplier” in Africa, accelerating human trafficking by destroying livelihoods, forcing displacement, and deepening poverty.
Environmental degradation also exacerbates competition for resources, allowing armed groups to exploit or coerce individuals in affected regions.
Droughts, floods, and unpredictable weather cause massive migration, leaving millions—particularly women and children—vulnerable to exploitation by traffickers, with over 3.8 million people already in forced labor on the continent.
